Use variants
You can use variants to provide variations of a standard process (master model) that differ in certain aspects, for example, with regard to regional conditions or requirements. Variant management improves process quality by eliminating duplicate data storage, rework, delays, errors, and inefficient administrative tasks. The variant relationship between the master model and its variants allows changes in the master model to be easily rolled out. During the roll-out process, master owners and variant owners are notified by e-mail about status changes. Variant management is available only for versionable databases.
Variant management supports different scenarios. For example:
You can roll out production processes for which variants are created when variations from the predefined process are required.
You can roll out predefined processes in different countries. In this scenario, the model variants can be created and adapted to the country-specific requirements.
Supported models
Non-lane and lane models, such as models of type EPC, EPC (table display)
BPMN diagrams and subprocesses in BPMN diagrams
Models that are assigned to objects of the master model, for example, models of type Function allocation diagram. During the resolution step, you can expand the assignment hierarchy and check the status of the assigned model.
