Create a scenario

Depending on your optimization target, you can create one or more scenarios. Assign models to each scenario and define the simulation period.

Alternatively, you can use the default scenario and modify it to meet your requirements, for example, by renaming it and adding a database and the relevant models.

Prerequisites

  • You have the ARIS Simulation license privilege.

  • You have access privileges for the database containing the relevant models.

Example 85.

Create a scenario to investigate the problem in the billing process. The Billing (car rental) process does not have any associated models in the original version. However, you can optionally create them by, for example, inserting the payment transaction into a separate model or creating the allocation of resources in FADs.

Procedure. Procedure

    Create one or several scenarios

    1. Select the Billing (car rental) project.

    2. Move the mouse pointer over Scenario Scenario, then click + Create scenario. The dialog opens.

    3. Enter the name Optimize billing for car rental.

    4. Select the United Motor Group database.

    5. Click Create.

The scenario is created. If required, create several different scenarios to compare the results and find the best solution.

    Add models

    1. In the scenario you created before, click Add Add models.

    2. Use the explorer tree or the search to navigate to the Billing (car rental) process. You can select either EPC or BPMN models. It is not possible to simulate a mixture of both model types.

After you selected the Billing (car rental) process, BPMN only is displayed next to the dialog title Add models.

    3. Since our example process does not originally have any related or auxiliary models, as described in the example above, click Add models and exit. The dialog closes and the selected models are displayed under Models.

      Alternative:

If you are using a different example and therefore want to select related process models that are to be included in the simulation click Find related models.

      1. Click Configure Configure.

      2. Specify the search options for predecessors, successors, and/or subordinates.

      3. Click Apply. If available, related process models are displayed.

      4. Select the relevant models. To select all models, click Enable/Activate/Selected in the table header.

      5. Click Find auxiliary models to add auxiliary models, such as organizational charts.

      6. Enable the corresponding model type in the search options. Then select the relevant models from the search result.

      7. To skip adding auxiliary models, disable all model types.

      8. Click Add models and exit. The dialog closes and the selected models are displayed under Models.

    4. Under Availability, check whether the selected models are valid.

    5. To remove any invalid models, Enable/Activate/Selected select the affected models, then click Remove Remove from list. Otherwise, the simulation run will not start.

The models are added to the scenario.

    Specify the simulation period

    1. In the scenario, click Period.

    2. Specify the simulation period, for example, one month.

    3. If required, enable Warm-up phase .

    4. Click Apply.

    The simulation period is specified.
