Use attributes

The Report an issue Properties panel displays the content in a different structure depending on whether you are using a content type set or not.

If a content type set is enabled for your system, the attributes are displayed grouped into categories specified in the content type set. This enables you to use the satellite modeling.

If no content type set is enabled for your system, the added attributes are listed according to methodical specifications.

You can use attributes to describe and distinguish between models, objects, and connections. You can place attributes directly in the modeling area.

Expand and collapse all categories

  1. Click More More > Expand all next to the item name if not all categories are expanded. All categories are expanded and you can scroll through the attributes.

  2. Click More More > Collapse all next to the item name to collapse all categories.

Filter properties

In the Models and objects view or in an open model, you can filter the contents of the Properties tab to display the properties that you want to view.

Procedure. Procedure

  1. Select the item for which you want to display the properties.

  2. Display the Properties tab of the Properties Details bar if it is not already open.

  3. Click More More next to the item name, and then Filter properties.

  4. Enter a filter term in the filter input field. All properties and attributes whose names contain the term you entered are displayed.

You have filtered the properties of the selected item. As long as you are in the Models and objects view or in an open model, the filter term remains stored for reuse. To close the filter input field, clickMore More > Hide filter.

Show and hide group path

The group path shows the path to the database group in the current database in which the selected item is stored, for example, /Main/Processes/Process architecture.

  1. To show the path to the database group in which the selected item is stored, click More More next to the name.

  2. Click Show group path. The group path is shown.

  3. To use the group link in a web browser, click More More in the group path field, then Copy group link or Copy group path.

  4. Hide the group path by clicking More More > Hide group path.

Show and hide database filter

  1. To show or hide the database filter for your user, click More More next to the model name in the Report an issue Properties panel.

  2. Click Show database filter or Hide database filter.

Edit attribute

You can edit the attributes of models, groups, objects, and connections.

Prerequisite

The attribute you selected can be edited. You cannot change or delete system attributes.

Procedure. Procedure

  1. Display the Properties tab of the Properties Details bar if it is not already open.

  2. If you want to edit model attributes, ensure that no model item is selected.

    If you want to edit object or connection attributes, select the corresponding object or connection.

  3. Filter the attribute. If the attribute is not added to the Properties tab, add the attribute.

  4. Move the mouse pointer over the attribute.

  5. Use the edit buttons or click the attribute to change its value.

You have edited the attribute.

Show and hide language column

You can show a column for another language next to the column with the original language. This way, you can compare and edit the content of language-dependent items in different languages side-by-side. For example, you can use this option to translate language-dependent content from one language to another.

Procedure. Procedure

  1. Open a model.

  2. Display the Properties tab of the Properties Details bar if it is not already open.

  3. Click Add language Add language at the bottom. A second column for language-dependent attributes is shown.

  4. Click the Down arrow down arrow to select the required language. The language column is displayed in the language you selected.

  5. Click Hide language Hide language if you no longer need to display the second language.

You have used the language column to display attributes in different languages.

Insert executable links for model items

You can insert links for items like models and objects, which you can use to start, for example, programs, documents. Links to application programs and their files are marked by the application symbol.

If a file is connected via a link attribute, the link works in Administration client. The link works in ARIS only if your browser does not block https connections. Note that most browsers do not allow opening files via https calls for security reasons.

Prerequisite

You are using a filter that allows the System attributes attribute type group.

Procedure. Procedure

  1. In an open model, select the relevant item.

  2. Display the Properties tab of the Properties Details bar if it is not already open.

  3. Filter for the attribute Title. The Title 1 and Title 2 attributes are listed. If the attributes are not listed, you can add them.

  4. For example, for the Title 1 attribute, enter ARIS Community, and for the attribute Title 2, enter the value E-mail to me.

  5. Filter for the attribute Link. The Link 1 and Link 2 attributes are listed.

  6. For the Link 1 attribute, enter the URL https://www.ariscommunity.com, and for Link 2, enter mailto:, immediately followed by your e-mail address.

If you click Link 1 on the Properties tab, your browser opens the website ARIS Community.

If you click Link 2 on the Properties tab, your e-mail program starts, a new e-mail is created and your e-mail address is entered in the recipient field.

Open links to models and model items

In an open model, you can open links to items such as programs and documents that are linked with models and model items.

Procedure. Procedure

  1. Display the Properties tab of the Properties Details bar if it is not already open.

  2. Select the relevant model item. To open links of the model instead of links for model items, deselect all model elements. This will display the model attributes.

  3. Filter for the attribute Link. The Link attributes are listed. If the attributes are not listed, you can add them.

  4. The Link attributes are listed. If the attributes are not listed, you can add them.

  5. Click the link on the Properties tab.

The link is executed and the program is started or the website or document opened.

Increase size of attribute editing dialog

You can increase the size of the attribute editing dialog so that you can conveniently edit comprehensive content. The dialog for language-dependent attributes is opened, such as Description/Definition and Remark/Example.

Procedure. Procedure

  1. Select the item for which you want to display the properties.

  2. Display the Properties tab of the Properties Details bar if it is not already open.

  3. On the Properties tab, click the attribute you want to edit, for example, Description/Definition. The editing dialog opens.

  4. Click Increase dialog size Zoom in. The size of the dialog increases and offers more space for editing the attribute.

  5. Make your entry.

  6. Click Decrease dialog size Zoom out to display the dialog in the original size again. If the content cannot be fully displayed in the dialog, a scroll bar is added.

You have resized the attribute editing dialog according to your requirements.
